Grand Health_Chitosan
Chitosan is a dietary fiber derived from chitin. Chitin is an aminopolysaccharide that comes from the shell of shellfish. Because chitosan is a positively charged compound, it is able to attract and bind to fatty acids which carry a negative charge. As such, chitosan can absorb up to four to six times its weight in fat (including cholesterol) and prevent that fat from being absorbed into the body. Extensive scientific investigation has continued to broaden our understanding of the characteristics and applications of chitosan. Due to its unique properties, this dietary fiber has a variety of beneficial effects in weight loss and management of cholesterol, as well as in pharmaceutical applications. As our knowledge of chitosan has grown, so has our appreciation of the realistic value of this compound. Although the exact mechanism by which chitosan binds fat is not yet fully understood, its influence on weight loss, cholesterol lowering, and associated health benefits is being documented. While it is apparent that chitosan does not represent a means by which individuals can eliminate the need for prudent dietary practices, when used in conjunction with a sound dietary program, chitosan represents a natural, safe and effective means to lower fat intake, and to maintain healthy cholesterol levels.
